We live in an era of instant sharing and living through social media – a true embodiment of what Andy Warhol predicted, that everyone can be famous for five minutes.
Keeping secrets and being able to hold your tongue used to be a common virtue, but now it seems to be old-fashioned. If you’ve got it, flaunt it – real-time is what’s #trending right now!
I have to be honest – I probably spend more time sharing things online than actually meeting up with friends and catching up. Yet due to my lifestyle and line of work, social media and the online world is also how I keep in touch with friends and family.
I have lived in many different places, so my friends are spread out in different parts of the world. In fact, that’s why I started my first blog at the age of ten years old – to be able to keep in touch with people online at least, if not in-person.
However, this is not why I am writing this post. I have been learning to hold back and cherish some moments with my own eyes, not through the filtered camera lens.
I was at Milan Fashion Week last year, around this time. I took some amazing photos at the Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral) but I never posted them until now. It was probably one of the most adventurous shots I ever did – climbing up in a Pucci dress, taking over what was normally the territory of pigeons, ignoring my shaky legs because of the height (with no safety protection!) and trying not to get caught by the police. I swear nothing was damaged and no pigeons were hurt during our shoot!
Funnily enough, many people followed me on Instagram because of this, telling me that they were there watching my shoot – and even sent me photos of what they saw! I hope to meet more of the people who were at Duomo that day by finally showing you these finished photos from the shoot.
Holding onto these photos for a year is no easy job for me, but I am glad I did it. It also adds that little something special to my birthday month, reminiscing back to when I had long hair with a fringe…
I hope you like them! Special thanks to the photographer of the day, Gianluca (
