Me, on my graduation day.
Last week, I was asked by Education Post of South China Morning Post to share my Christmas gift idea for the overachievers (MBA students).
And here is it:
“What festive gift would you get for an MBA student, one who seem to have everything and is on top of everything? We ask these online influencers what would make great gifts for our overachievers to celebrate the end of a fruitful year and to welcome the year 2013.”
I would give him/her an internship opportunity in a social enterprise.
This is something that helps an MBA student to learn some hands-on experience in an industry that he/she might not have considered before.
Many MBA students aspire to work in big corporate and banking industry to make money, and to be a successful businessman or a business owner.
However, I really hope they can look into doing something good for the community with their smartness and everything they learnt during their MBA course.
A social enterprise can be for-profit or non-profit; the difference is that one applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in human and environmental well-being, while the other is to maximise profits for external shareholders.
MBA students learn concepts and case studies in their courses. An internship in a real social enterprise would help them to apply these to help their local community and make the world a better place.
To all MBA students: Make a difference and do good in the world without sacrificing your business ambition.
