Even when Hong Kong seems its at its boiling point these days, winter can still be freezing. Brrrrr!
Which brand do I go for a clean cut coat with quality that never fails me?
While there are many I like, I chose to spotlight Max Mara as I not only like their designs but it gave me a good reason to check out their new flagship store in Central.

Max Mara 的大衣一直都没有让我失望过，所以每次挑选大衣我都会去那里。不管是剪裁，还是用料，Max Mara 从来都精益求精。这次他们在香港中环的总店也搬了新址，让我们一起去看看吧！
Max Mara’s new Hong Kong flagship store located in the St. Georges Building is designed by acclaimed architect Duccio Grassi Architects and just opened in the beginning of June. The new store brings elements of technology together with the simplicity of nature: mixing LED lights with ashed oak wood to give it a very distinct look. I am no design expert, but for me a retail space is good as long as I can see the garment well and it pops out at me while browsing.
Always a big fan of Max Mara’s minimalist coats, I am happy to see some amazing garments from its Fall / Winter 2012-13 collection too. The collection is said to be inspired by a “metropolis of towering office blocks and skyscrapers in glass” which is close to my heart as I’ve always lived in big cities.

However, the true surprise is the use of bold colours and powerful composition. If you are daring; love rigorous, innovative shapes or even an admirer of strong women like Emmeline Pankhurst. Then this is heaven for you!
Besides the design, Max Mara has also kept its tradition of constructing garments using only the most luxurious material such as angora, alligator dévoré knit, camel hair, loden melton, crêpe wool, pinstripes and hand-finished double cashmere (with the felted appearance of military apparel).
Wrap a belt around your waist to make that silhouette stand out even wearing a coat, or let it loose for an ultra relaxing look.
Don’t be afraid to wear a sleeveless coat with nothing underneath (put on another jacket if you are feeling the chill in late fall or winter).
