You can’t help but share a flight with some big names in the entertainment industry when you are going to or from the fashion weeks – and I had the honour of flying with Charlene Choi, Carina Lau and a few other Asian celebs, who are all regular front-row guests at major fashion shows across the four main fashion weeks. Are they there to win magazines’ best-dressed titles… or should those awards go to their stylists? Or are they there because they received some financial reward to attend? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
As I was collecting my luggage from the belt yesterday at Hong Kong International Airport, my eyes caught sight of a tall slender figure that no doubt had to belong to a MODEL! And I was proved right, as it turned out to be the one and only Naomi Campbell, who was surrounded by her three bodyguards, with flashlights soon blinding us from every direction possible at the arrival hall. So what was Naomi Campbell doing in Hong Kong on 14 March?
Then it hit me… She must be here for the amfAR! She’d flown into town to attend along with a few other internationally well-known figures, including Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paris Hilton, Robin Thicke, Wendi Murdoch and Michelle Yeoh.
Despite the ongoing tensions in the city and the diminishing importance of Hong Kong as an global trade centre, it’s such a privilege for HK to be the first city in the Greater China region to be chosen to host an amfAR fundraising gala.
If it means crowds of people all dressed to impress and raising funds for a well-deserved cause, then I say, “Let there be galas everyday”! (The dinner raised US$4 million dollars in the end!)
Here are some of the best-dressed of the night in my opinion:
Victoria Beckham wearing Victoria Beckham
Charlene Choi wearing ASHI STUDIO
Hilary Tsui wearing Marc Jacobs
Wendi Murdoch wearing Calvin Klein
