Blue was my favourite colour when I was younger; to me, it was the purest colour – the colour of the sky, the sea and my school uniform!
People often use the word “blue” to refer to unhappiness – having a case of “the Monday blues”, feeling “blue” emotionally, or being physically “black and blue”. Some people might see blue as a cold colour, but I think that there is warmth in every colour – and blue is no exception!
When I think of blue, I think about the beautiful colour of someone’s eyes, the stunning reflections when the sun shines on the ocean, or the blue on my dad’s Navy uniform. Back in my childhood days, I rarely saw my dad – so I’d know when he was home because I’d see his blue uniform hanging there.
A highly acclaimed movie called Blue is the Warmest Colour was released last year; it’s a French film about a young lesbian couple. One of the girls had dyed blue hair, so to the other girl, that blue represented love, passion and the warmth of a lover’s body…
What does the colour blue mean to you?
